Hey FICOs!
Let’s be real, July hit different. The vibes slowed down, the tiredness got louder, and while most of Europe was out there discovering new pores to sweat from, here in Las Palmas we were wrapped in our usual “panza de burro,” living our best London-in-the-Canaries fantasy.
Ok yes, I’m just being a little dramatic. The island is still stunning… even when it’s a bit moodier and quieter. Actually, especially when it’s quieter. More space and less line at Mercadona.
So yes, we’re off on a little break… to recharge the batteries and get inspired for the season to come. Before we leave though, let me just show you what we’ve been up to…

Silvia is back in town (yes, for the 6th time), and she’s now fully in her Calisthenics queen era. Apparently, she can do diamond push-ups. And by “do,” I think she means “attempt with great enthusiasm”. Well done Silvia… you might not be able to do a perfect diamond push-up yet, but you are our precious little gem 💎

FICO was a bit more chill this month everyone’s slowly disappearing into holiday mode… understandably. BUT, just to be clear: our coffee breaks are still the busiest on the island. No debate. Yes, we ran out of chairs and had to sit on the floor. Iconic behavior, if you ask me.

Meet Matija(His beard is a work in progress) 
You might have not met him yet, but you definitely heard his voice |
Name: Matija Country: Slovenia Job: Founding Software Engineer Passions outside of work? LOVE to trail run (running does the trick. sometimes as well), give hugs, do lots of different sports (volleyball, surf, football, basketball and whatever sounds fun). Let me add something…
I’ve never really shared personal thoughts about specific FICO members in this newsletter. But hey, I run this thing, so I guess I can do whatever the hell I want, right? 🙃
This month’s spotlight goes to someone very special: Matija.
We first met playing beach volley, and over time, we became like brothers.
He was one of the very first people to see FICO before it became what it is today. He walked in wearing his iconic tank top, camera in hand, Harry Potter glasses… and I remember thinking:
“Why is this guy so curious about my yet non-existing FICO project?”
Now I get it. Matija saw the potential of this friendship way before I did, and for that, I’m really grateful.
Since then, we’ve travelled together. We’ve had multiple haircuts together (some better than others, some way more expensive than others).
He basically fed my Instagram for months with his high-quality portraits of me pretending not to pose.
We’ve played volley, bought matching sunglasses (as one does), shared life talks, cried a little, laughed a lot, and even checked our daily Co–Star horoscopes, which, by the way, I just checked again, and our ‘philosophies of life’ are still incompatible. 🤷🏻♂️
If you’ve met Matija, you already know: He’s one of the good ones.
He gives the best hugs, always has something kind to say, and his voice? Loudest in the universe. Not up for debate.
I’m giving him this little newsletter love letter (1) because I can, and (2) because he’s about to leave the island for five months with his wonderful girlfriend, Maddie. Needless to say: we’ll all miss him terribly.
Matija, I hope Groningen treats you like the absolute gem you are. And if it doesn’t… I’ll fly over and slap it until it does.
Best of luck, hermanito. You haven’t even left yet, and I’m already counting the days until you’re back. ♥️
